Five simple sensory activities to try at home

Did you know?

At birth, your baby’s vision is still developing. Newborns can only see around 20–30 cm away, roughly the distance from your face to theirs during feeding and cuddles. They naturally prefer:

• High-contrast black and white patterns

• Simple shapes and bold lines

• Faces and gentle movement

As your baby grows, their ability to see colours, track objects, and focus continues to improve.

Five simple sensory activities to try at home

🖤 Hold a high-contrast card from our Little Eyes Sensory flashcards 20–30 cm from your baby’s face and slowly move it side to side.

🖤 Lay your baby on our bold contrast sensory muslin during tummy time to encourage visual exploration.

🖤 Position black and white cards near the changing table for a calming sensory moment.

🖤Chat, sing, and make facial expressions during feeds and cuddles.

🖤 Take your baby outside for a sensory walk and let them experience natural light, shadows, and movement.

Sensory play doesn’t need to be complicated. Even a few minutes each day can support your baby’s developing vision. It also makes tummy time a little more fun for them!
